Beach Boys

This series „Beach Boys“ is named after an artwork I created in February 2023. The original black-and-white analog photograph captures two young Black boys, no older than ten, standing atop the boiler of an old shipwreck. They come from a township by the beach, and have turned the wreck into their playground — a space where they are free to let their imaginations run wild.
That image stayed with me. It made me wonder about the years ahead, about these boys as they grow into men. Do they ever return to their childhood playground? Do they still climb the wreck, play catch, and embrace the carefree spirit of their youth? Beach Boys tells that story, of men who, become boys again, if only for a moment, in a place where they are truly free.
